Gauntlet: Ceremony of Arms

Increase in rank from Recruit to Soldier

People required:

Action 1 - A mentor expresses their belief that the recruit is ready to become a soldier.
(Usually 3-7 days after someone has been a recruit.)

Action 2 - An announcement is made in guild chat (or by message of the day) that a Ceremony of Arms will take place at a certain time and place.

Action 3 - People are assembled at the time and place, and the chat log is activated to keep a permanent record of the ceremony.

Action 4 - The guild leader, or highest titled soldier if the guild leader is unavailable, says a few words of welcome.

Action 5 - The recruit's mentor introduces and speaks about the recruit.

Action 6 - The recruit's mentor opens the floor to others who would like to speak for or against the recruit with the statement, "I leave (name) to be judged by the Gauntlet, any who wish to speak for or against (his/her) advancement shall do so now."
It is hoped no one will speak against the recruit. However, if any do, the recruit can be judged here and now if they are, or are not yet, ready to become a soldier.
It is hoped at this time that many soldiers and recruits will step forward to tell their stories they have about the recruit who the ceremony is for, which will all hopefully speak of their good character, or be in good humor.

Action 7 - The guild leader, or highest titled soldier, will determine if the mentor should proceed with the conveyance
The guild leader (or highest titled soldier) will say, "Having been judged by the Gauntlet, I hereby (agree or disagree) with the conveyance of rank."
The recruit's mentor will be told to either "continue," or "stop," the ceremony.

Action 8 - Upon permission to continue the recruit's mentor then says:
Mentor: "(name), do you commit yourself to performing the duties of a Soldier of Gauntlet to the best of your ability?"
Soldier to be: "/v yes", or by typing "I so (or do) swear."
Mentor: "(name), do you commit yourself to standing with might and courage, to fighting with strength and honor, and to judge with knowledge and compassion?
Soldier to be: "/v yes", or by typing "I so (or do) swear."
Mentor: "Then let it be known on this day, by the approval and witness of the Gauntlet, I do hereby convey the rank and title of Soldier to (name)."

<end ceremony, there was much rejoicing>
